How I Spent My Summer Vacation
IT SURPRISED ME to find that the worst of being homeless isn’t the first night. Its not the first time you sleep on the subway, or the subsequent nights training yourself to wake up every twenty minutes to avoid the police or a stranger trying to touch your bag. It’s not the first time someone at your office catches you washing clothes in the bathroom sink, or when the McDonald’s cashier with knowing eyes informs you that you have shaving cream on your neck. I think we’re all adaptable to a fault, and like the guy who takes a fistful of Excedrin every morning for his dead tooth because he doesn’t have health insurance, we’re all pretty good at accepting new normals.
This is our tall, hilarious friend Dan Chamberlain. And we love him.
